The Story Behind The Sauce...
We've been getting on the sauce for over a decade
We’ve been getting on the sauce with generous foodies since waaaaaaaay back in 2013, when we started out in Wellington with not much more than a saucepan and a dream.
Baxter’s Original/ Get On The Sauce sprung out of the social sizzle you feel when you’re sharing good food with good people.
We set out with two ideals held in our hearts; to create sauces worth sharing with the people who matter, and to use premium, natural ingredients that are grown in nature, not in chemistry labs. And with an encyclopaedia of allergies to cater for in our own families, we’ve managed to stay true to those roots AND develop a range that everyone can enjoy.
Baxter’s Original is the flavour-child of Scott Baxter, known as “The Condiment King” to his friends and family back in the States. Scott, Erika and their young family set up shop in New Zealand for the production of “The Hobbit” trilogy. Scott met Berrin Moody on set and, countless barbecues and batches of sauce later, their families forged a lifelong friendship.
The Baxter Family (2013)
As this fellowship flourished (terrible Hobbit joke, sorry), so did their sauce wizardry (last one, promise). Constantly testing new recipes, talking to foodies at farmers markets, and collaborating with the pit-crews at some of New Zealand’s most competitive barbecue competitions, Baxter’s Original began to build a following. Soon enough, supermarkets, restaurants, and foodie retailers had joined the movement and the sauce took off.
When Scott and Erika had to head back to the states in 2017, Local New Zealanders Berrin Moody and partner Mekla Sirisomphone, vowed to keep the social sauce flowing. They picked up the torch, hellbent on helping kiwis get together over good food and good times.
